Firing the first shot.

Your first contact will usually be a phone interview. This is your time to make the best first impression. The interviewer will generally decide whether or not they want to move you forward. This is because they'll ask you to tell them about yourself.

Keep the conversation casual and professional. Try not to give an answer that you think they will want to hear. You do not want to start off on the wrong foot.

For example, if the interviewer says, "at EFG company, we are focused on building LMN product. This product serves the automobile industry" and you are a healthcare UI/UX designer, don't tell them you have an interest in the automobile industry if that's not true.

They may ask you to tell them about your experience in the automobile industry now or in later interviews and this will hurt you. What you really want is that your honesty places you in a place where you want to be, in this case, a healthcare-related role.

Your honesty will also make your life easier. You won't have to try to "come up with an answer."
